SELF-EVALUATION

What I consider my main achievement is the discovery of a variety of tools and sites, all of them with multiple ideas to help teachers and students. And the best thing is that through all these digital and media tools they can be very creative and evidence their own learning. With the blogs and wikis they can prove their ability to speak, listen, read, write and be proud of it. They are free to revise and correct any time they wish. So I thank Maria Elena Delgado for opening this box of surprises. I HAVE A LOT TO LEARN.

PORTFOLIO ASESSMENT

I think a blog and also a wiki can be used as excellent tools to implement Portfolio Asessment. A good example is this course: we can evaluate our own and our peers blogs, and revise the blogs whenever, wherever on line and as many times as we wish.

A portfolio is a digital tool where students can collect and then revise their best works. It measures and provides evidence of the individual works and document learning by focusing on product and process, where they incorporate and use the 4 language skills.

There are some advantages of a portfolio assessment vs traditional forms, for example: the portfolio measures student's ability over time and captures many facets of language learning performance; the assessment is embedded in instruction and involves student’s own assessment; students learn how to take responsibility, and it’s done by teacher and student, so they are aware of criteria. AND I AM SURE LEARNERS FEEL THEY ARE USING LANGUAGE.

For teachers who are not familiar with portfolios the suggestion is to have students collect everything they do in a folder. Later, they work on portfolios revising, adding self-assessments, annotating and organizing. If it is in the computer, it’s easier, because the students work on their portfolios at any time. At the end, they will have learned how to set goals by themselves.

COMMENTS ON PODCAST FOR TEACHERS AND WEB TOOLS

Following the instructions of Day 5, I listened to Podcast for teachers and selected four programs: Episode 12 Face Book, Ep.11 Big Ideas and Big Future, Vol.2 Ep. 101 Story boarding, and Vol.2 Ep.99 Blogs in classrooms. This radio or TV programs are excellent. I think, even for the students there are some topics good for them. We can listen to real conversations, different voices of men and women, debates trying real problems, etc.. And we as teachers can learn and update our knowledge.

And in relation to the WebTools, I need a life to check them all, but the ones I opened, are very attractive, because we can get useful tips and ideas to create our own material and these tools help us to.

COMMENTS ABOUT "READ, WRITE AND THINK

This page offers a variety of examples. For example, the next lesson could be good for Unit 2 English IV where everybody has to introduce to each other. They have to talk about their family life, so this is appropriate for that:

A Getting-Acquainted Activity Using My Teacher’s Secret Life
The first days of school are filled with excitement and uncertainty. Here, in this lesson, is a creative way for students to become familiar with the teacher and each other. The students will listen to Stephen Krensky's My Teacher's Secret Life, discuss the content, and make predictions about what everyone does when they are away from school

This other page is good for Unit 10 English IV to talk about the past:

A Biography Study: Using Role-Play to Explore Authors' Lives
In this lesson, eleventh-grade students read biographies and explore websites of selected American authors. They collaborate in teams to design creative projects and role-play as the authors in a panel presentation. They then synthesize their knowledge into essays about their authors.

EXCELLENT EXAMPLES

Hello to everybody,
I have been watching Maria Elena’s blogs and I finally could see and understand what she is expecting from us as teachers. Of course she is always showing and repeating the purpose and the idea of using technology in class. But now that I saw real examples of how they work, I find it easier to program and plan the use of them in future lessons. Of course I have to practice first “the how to use these tools”, maybe www.teachertrainingvideos.com/ can help, but I’m sure the students know all about it better than me.

Be ready to share your opinion.

My movie

My best mother's day present

I think this has been one of the most useful gifts I have received in my life.
Everyday, when I use it, I thank my husband for it. I keep it in my bathroom. It is small, light and white.

My zaga in Amazon River

Finally I could accomplish my dream of going to the Amazon. I booked everything through internet. I couldn't believe I was in that green and wet world. I didn't expect a luxurious hotel, but... no electricity, no individual rooms, hamocks, surrounded with yacares, pirañas, anacondas, monkeys, MOSQUITOES,spiders, and face painted natives.
